An Act to recognise and incorporate the Uganda Red Cross as the sole national Red Cross Society.[Cap. 125 (Revised Edition, 1964); Cap. 57 (Revised Edition, 2000)]

1. Incorporation of Society

(1)The organisation known as the Uganda Red Cross shall, on the coming into force of this Act—
(a)be incorporated as a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal;
(b)be known as the Uganda Red Cross Society; and
(c)be the sole national Red Cross Society in Uganda.
(2)The Society is recognised as a voluntary aid society and shall be auxiliary to public authorities exercising their obligations by virtue of the Geneva Conventions for the amelioration of the condition of the wounded and sick of armed forces in the field, for the amelioration of the condition of sick and shipwrecked members of armed forces at sea, relative to the treatment of prisoners of war and to the protection of civilian persons in time of war.
(3)The Society may sue and be sued by its corporate name.
(4)The Society may, for the purposes of any of its objects, by agreement or otherwise, acquire or dispose of property.
(5)For the purposes of this Act, “Society” means the Uganda Red Cross Society incorporated under subsection (1).

2. Object of Society

The object of the Society shall be—
(a)the furnishing of aid to the sick and wounded in time of war and to non-belligerents and to prisoners of war and civilian sufferers from the effects of war; and
(b)the improvement of health, the prevention of disease and the mitigation of suffering throughout the world without any distinction based on race, nationality, class, religion or political opinions.

3. Exclusive use of emblem

The Society shall, in accordance with any notice published in that behalf under section 153 of the Penal Code Act, have the exclusive use of the Red Cross emblem.
